Making Herbal Remedies: Plant Tinctures

Joshua Muscat, Director of the San Francisco Botanical Medicine Clinic, will teach you how to make dry and fresh plant tinctures, which are concentrated forms of herbal medicine that are convenient to use, highly portable, and have a long shelf life.  

Herbs in tincture form address a wide array of illnesses, from short-term acute issues (such as urinary tract infection or a head cold) to long-term chronic disorders (such as sinus allergies, asthma or arthritis). You will learn useful skills that will empower you to manage your own health issues with plant medicine, including suggestions for plants that are appropriate for beginner exploration of self-care.  You will get to take home the tinctures you make in this workshop.

NOTE: This class requires that each participant bring a chopping knife (for cutting herbs).  If you are unable to bring a knife, please email registration@urbankitchensf.org.

Instructor Bio

Joshua Muscat is an herbalist in his 16th year of clinical practice. He has been formally studying herbal medicine for the past seven years. His education in the art of herbalism includes studies at the Pacific School of Herbal Medicine, studies with Chuck Garcia who is a Curendero, studies with Herbalist Karyn Sanders, studies at the Southwest School of Botanical Medicine, several college courses on subjects such as anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and botany, independent studies in whatever subject seems applicable, and much time spent sitting with the plants themselves.
